Have you ever wondered how whistleblowers can make a significant impact and earn substantial rewards in the process? Today, we’re diving into the rich world of whistleblower rewards under the False Claims Act.
Hi, I’m Joshua M. Baker, a lawyer at Young Law Group. The False Claims Act, originally enacted during the Civil War, is one of the most powerful tools we have to combat fraud against the federal government.
This act allows individuals, known as whistleblowers, to come forward and report fraud. But it’s not just about doing the right thing. Whistleblowers can also receive significant financial rewards for their courage.
Under the False Claims Act, if the government recovers money as a result of the whistleblower’s information, the whistleblower can receive between 15% and 30% of the total amount recovered. That can mean millions of dollars in some cases.
For example, in 2020 alone, the Department of Justice recovered over $2.2 billion from False Claims Act cases. Whistleblowers were awarded more than $309 million for their contributions.
Being a whistleblower is a brave and important decision. It not only helps to stop fraud but also rewards those who take the risk to come forward. If you have information about fraud against the government, it’s crucial to seek legal advice to understand your rights and options.
At Young Law Group, we specialize in representing whistleblowers and guiding them through this complex process. If you think you have a case, don’t hesitate to reach out.
